Most people ask AI a quick hormone question and get a quick, shallow answer. Others ask for “the science” and get a wall of jargon they can’t use. In this video, you’ll learn why the question you ask decides the answer you get, and how to ask questions that are simple but deep.
To show this, I ask the same AI about progesterone in two different ways and compare the results.
🔍 What you’ll learn
1. Why AI (and guidelines) give narrow answers
When you ask “Do I need progesterone if I don’t have a uterus?”, the answer is usually “generally no.” That’s because the guidelines focus on one job of progesterone: protecting the uterine lining from overgrowth. They don’t cover what else progesterone may do in the body.
2. What progesterone does outside the uterus
When the question changes to “Does progesterone do anything outside the uterus?”, the answer changes completely. It covers:
The brain: progesterone is converted into allopregnanolone, which binds the GABA receptor and has a calming effect
Sleep: how this calming effect relates to sleep
Temperature regulation: how it relates to hot flashes
Mood: why anxiety and depression are part of the conversation
3. Progesterone vs. progestins
Progesterone is the hormone your body makes naturally.
Progestins are chemically different. They bind the receptor but don’t necessarily do what natural progesterone does.
4. Why asking only for “treatment” can mislead you
Ask “what is the treatment?” and you may get a long list of separate drugs (sleep aids, antidepressants). Asking why symptoms happen can reveal that one hormone may be involved in several of them.
5. More information ≠ more clarity
Information without a framework creates confusion, not understanding. I share a real patient example of someone who had researched a lot online and was still confused about iron, anxiety, and the birth control pill.
✅ Questions to ask instead
“What does this hormone do outside of [organ]?”
“What is the science behind this guideline?”
“Is this a general guideline for everyone, or does it consider my history and environment?”
“What is the difference between [hormone] and [similar drug]?”
